Tech's Rhett and Mahoney Shine at Yellow Jacket Invitational

Georgia Tech’s Amandi Rhett and Brendon Mahoney each tallied first place finishes to lead the Yellow Jackets at the annual Yellow Jacket Invitational on the campus of Georgia Tech. Rhett ended the meet with a first place finish in the 100 meter run (11.44) and a third place finish in the 200 meter run (23.70) while Mahoney was tops in the 800 meter run in a time of 1:50.65.

On the women’s side in field events, Lauren Reimer placed seventh in the javelin (111.6″) and 10th in the shot put (41.10.75″) while Simone Parker had a third place finish in the discus (153′ 10″) and a sixth place finish in the hammer throw (159′ 8″). Also competing in the discus was Dore Madere who ended the meet in 10th place. In the triple jump, Brandy Depland had a leap of 42’9″ to finish first and she was followed by Shanta Smith who was second with a jump of 41’4.25″. Depland also finished fifth in the long jump, marking 18′ 8″ and she was followed by teammate Ashley McNeill who was ninth with a leap of 17’11.0″. In the high jump, Chaunte Howard led all competitors with a jump of 6’1.25″ to finish first and also posted a 10th place finish in the 100 meter hurdles. In track events, Dana Rogers had a second place finish in the 100 meter hurdles and had two ninth place finishes in the 200 and 100 meter runs. Ashlee Kidd posted a third place run in the 400 meter and was sixth in the 200 meter dash. Andriane Laplsley notched a fifth place finish in the 100 meter run, a seventh place finish in the 100 meter hurdles and was eighth in the 200 meter run. In the 400 meter hurdles, Priscilla Reed was eighth with a time of 1:03.03. In the 5000 meter run, Neta Ezar was 3rd (17:39.36), Kirby Cross was 5th, 17:48.79 and Rachel Heim was ninth (18:44.44) while in the 1500 meter run, Jenny Sims finished third (4:33.10) and Jennifer Lentz was fourth (4:35.48).

On the men’s side in field events, Michael Massey was second in the high jump, clearing 6.10.75″ while Holt McPherson was third with a jump of 24’25”. In the triple jump, James Lemons was fourth (47′.05″) while Spencer Irvine was fifth (45’8″). Zeb Sion posted a sixth place finish in the shot put (40′ 2.75″) while Anthony Hoover was seventh in the javelin (176’3″). Also posting a top-10 finish was Jonathon Chihoski who ended the meet ninth in the hammer throw. In track events, Barton Crist was second behind teammate Mahoney in the 800 meter with a time of 1:51.28 while Brian Ford was fourth in the 200 meter run (21.47) and fifth in the 400 meter run (48.01). Cristan Duvall was second in the 3000 meter steeplechase (9:36.84) and Montrell Person won the 110 hurdles in a time of 13.60. In the 1,500 meter run, Neil McDonagh was fifth (3:48.38) and teammate Rob Kuhn was ninth (3:50.69). Also competing for the Yellow Jackets was Jordan Crosby who was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles in a time of 54.35.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action at the Sea Ray Relays April 9-10 in Knoxville, Tenn.
