Tech's Megesi Misses Cut in NCAA 800 Meters

BOISE, Idaho (June 2) — Georgia Tech junior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) missed the qualifying cut for the finals in the 800 meters Wednesday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships being held at Boise State’s Bronco Track Complex.

Megesi ran a 2:11.31 and finished fifth in her heat after having run a school record 2:04.63 in Tech’s Reebok Invitational on May 21. She will run in the preliminary of the 1,500 meters tomorrow and has the nation’s 19th fastest time in that event after running a school record 4:17.20 also at the Reebok Invitational.

Senior Andria King (Atlanta, Ga.) will run in the preliminary of the 100 meter hurdles, and the men’s 4×400 relay team of Michael Johnson (Littleton, Colo.), Jonas Motiejunas (Phoenix, Ariz.), Bryan Swarn (Englewood, Colo.) and Tosin Tomori (Harare, Zimbabwe) will run in a preliminary heat. Motiejunas will also compete in the preliminary of the men’s 400 meters.

Semifinals and finals will continue on Friday and Saturday
