ATLANTA – Senior Katie Griffin and freshman Kirby Cross finished third and fourth, respectively, to lead the Yellow Jackets to victory at the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, SC on Saturday morning. Freshman Cristan Duvall led the men’s team to a fourth place finish. The meet was held at behind the Jervey Athletic Center on Clemson’s campus.
Griffin finished the five-kilometer race in 17:56 and Cross followed at 18:05. Senior Amy Dock, running in her first meet of the season, finished third for the Jackets and ninth overall in 18:40. Rounding out the scoring for the Jackets was Jenny Lentz (14th, 18:58) and Mary Chind (15th, 19:03).
The Tech women tallied 40 points to win the race, finishing four points ahead of second-place Appalachian State.
Duval finished 13th in the race and was the 10th Division I finisher with an eight-kilometer time of 25:38. Rob Kuhn and Barton Crist finished in 18th and 19th place, respectively, to follow Duvall. Rounding out the scoring for the men were Jimmy DeYonker (26th) and Clark Rivers (34th).
The Jackets were fourth behind host Clemson, with 20 points, Western Carolina (59 points), and Appalachian State (66 points).
Tech will return to action November 1st at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, to be held at the Wake Forest Cross Country Fields in Winston-Salem, NC.
