ATLANTA (Sept. 18) – Georgia Tech’s women’s and men’s cross country teams finished second and third, respectively, Saturday at the 13th-annual Crimson Classic cross country meet hosted by the University of Alabama.
Senior Becky Megesi (Jonesboro, Ga.) placed sixth in in 18:12 over the 5K course to pace the Yellow Jackets. The Tech women placed four runners among the meet’s top 25 finishers to take second. Junior Sara Pardue (Aurora, Colo.) was 14th in a time of 18:49, senior Tina Frey (Peachtree City, Ga.) was 17th in 18:58 and freshman Aenslee Tanner (Portsmouth, N.H.) was 23rd in 19:15.
Florida won the women’s race with 41 points, while Tech was second with 100 points, Alabama was third with 109 points, Florida State was fourth with 124 points and Auburn was fifth with 142 points.
Senior Brad Mills (Toledo, Ohio) paced the Jacket men as he placed 13th in 25:10 over the 8K race. Junior Joey Zins was 18th in 25:25, junior Joe Stegall was 36th in 26:06 and junior Giovanni Pipia was 39th in 26:16.
Southern Mississippi captured the men’s meet with 30 points, Alabama was second with 41 points, Tech placed third with 110 points, Samford was fourth with 119 points and Florida State was fifth with 138 points.
The Jackets, who were suppose to run at the North Carolina Invitational, had to run at Alabama due to Hurricane Floyd postponing the North Carolina meet. Tech will next be in action Oct. 1 at the Auburn Invitational.
