ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams will compete at the Seminole Twilight Invitational this weekend in Tallahassee, Fla. Competition begins Friday at 2 p.m. with the high jump and long jump at the Mike Long Track.

With just two weeks left before the NCAA East Region Championships, the Jackets have regionally qualified in 22 events – 11 on the men’s side and 11 on the women’s side.

“After finishing up the semester academically with exams, our team is rested and anxious to get back to competition,” women’s head coach Alan Drosky said. “The Seminole Twilight Invitational will provide a great opportunity for us to add to our growing list of NCAA East Regional qualifiers.”

Freshman Mary Kate DuBard became the most recent qualifier for the Tech women, with a 10:46.04 run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase at the Penn Relays two weeks ago.

“After taking a week off from competition for finals, we are looking forward to heading to Tallahassee for the Twilight Invitational,” men’s head coach Grover Hinsdale said. “Historically, we have performed well at Florida State and are excited about the opportunity that this meet will offer our team.”

On the men’s side, junior Alphonso Jordan has regionally qualified in three events on the year (110m Hurdles, long jump and triple jump), and currently has the 11th-best triple jump mark in the nation. Junior Steve Marcelle has qualified in the shot put and discus, and is ranked in the top-15 in the country in both.
