CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — Led by wins in the 5000 meters by sophomore Kyle Rabbitt and junior Amy Dock, the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams each finished Friday in second place at the Tar Heel Elite Invitational.
Tech’s men tallied 46 points, trailing leader Charlotte by only seven points. On the women’s side, the Yellow Jackets have 49 points and trail leader Georgia, which has 56.
Rabbitt won the men’s 5000 in a time of 14:50.06, as the Jackets claimed four of the first five places in the event. Rabbitt was followed by seniors Joey Zins, who placed second, as well as Joe Poliseo and Phillip Gable, who finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Dock claimed the women’s 5000 in a mark of 17:06.15. Tech’s other win of the day came from the women’s distance medley relay team, which finished first in a time of 11:41.71. The men’s DMR team placed second in 10:10.29.
Other strong performances came from Amandi Rhett, who placed second in the women’s 60 meters in a season-best time of 7.56, and senior Angela Levens who finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 59’05.50″. Freshman Dana Rogers was fifth in the 60-meter hurdles, logging a time of 8.85.
Quality finishes on the men’s side came from junior Chris Crawley, who posted a season-best mark of 24’03.00″ to place second in the long jump, and sophomore Michael Massey, who cleared a season-best 6’08.00″ in the high jump to finish seventh.
Action will resume tomorrow morning at 11 a.m.
