Tech Track and Field Heads to Iowa State, Notre Dame for Last Chance Meets

ATLANTA – Members of the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams will compete at both Iowa State and Notre Dame Friday in search of qualifying standards for next weekend’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at Fayetteville, Ark.

Headlining the Iowa State NCAA Qualifier for the Jackets are 2002 ACC Indoor Most Valuable Performer Brendon Mahoney, who will compete in the mile, and league triple jump champion Shanta Smith, who will hope to improve her mark in that event.

Also competing for Tech’s women will be senior Nicole Campbell (800 meters), junior Jessica DeFreitas (long jump), senior Sara Pardue (800 meters), senior Mishanta Reyes (long jump) and Amandi Rhett (60 and 200 meters).

As for the men, senior Joe Stegall will join Mahoney in the mile.

Juniors Amy Dock and Katie Griffin are the lone Jackets running at Notre Dame’s Alex Wilson Invitational. Both will compete in the 5000 meters.

The NCAA Championships are slated for March 8-9 at the University of Arkansas’ Randal Tyson Track Center.
