Tech Track and Field Enjoys Strong Day of Competition Friday at Arkansas, Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. and FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — With two strong performances at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational and a pair of wins at Kentucky’s Rod McCravy Memorial Track & Field Meet, the Georgia Tech men and women’s track and field teams enjoyed a solid day of competition Friday.

At Arkansas, junior Brendon Mahoney finished third and posted a career-best time of 4:02.58 in the mile, provisionally qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the process. All-American Bryan Swarn also had a strong performance, placing second in the 400 meters in a season-best time of 47.55.

In action at the Wildcats’ Nutter Field House, junior Chris Crawley placed first in the triple jump with a season-best mark of 48’01.25″, while senior Angela Levens posted a win in the weight throw with a toss of 59’00.75″. Sophomore Spencer Irvine followed Crawley with a fifth-place finish in the triple jump.

Other strong performances came from freshman Ian Brewer, who placed second in the weight throw with a school record mark of 52’02.00″, and junior Jamie Ostrov, who placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5’04.25″.

Action will resume in Lexington Saturday at 10:30 a.m. Several Yellow Jackets are also competing at the University of Arkansas’ Tyson Invitational, which will also resume Saturday.
