Tech Swimming Falls In Final Road Meet To NC State

RALEIGH, N.C. – In their final road meet of the season, the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s swimming and diving squads fell in a tough dual meet with NC State Saturday. The women fell, 181-119 while the men scrapped until the very end losing a tough one, 155-143.

The Jackets finished with 11 first place finishes on the day, two of which were earned by Heidi Hatteberg, Anton Lagerqvist, and Brandon Makinson.

Both of Hatteberg’s victories came in the backstroke as the junior captain won the 100-Back with a time of 57.20 and the 200-Back in 2:03.14. Freshman Anton Lagerqvist demonstrated his depth with a win in the 200-Breast in 2:02.01 as well as the 200-IM (1:52.55).

Makinson’s two victories on the day helped him to sweep all of the diving events he competed in on the weekend. It wasn’t even close in each of the diving events as Makinson brought home the 1-meter dive victory with a point total of 332.18 and came close to the Tech 3-meter diving record with his first place finish of 387.75.

Also seeing success on the day was Travis Wagner who earned the first victory on the day for the Jackets with his 200-Free victory in 1:41.62.

The sprint duo of Lexi Weber and Garrett Robberson each brought home the win as Weber touched the wall in 23.81 while Robberson did it in 21.05. Eric Chiu continued the sprint success into the 100-Free where he captured the title with a finish of 46.63.

Ashley Hardy earned her third diving victory of the weekend with the 1-meter dive victory as she tallied 275.10 points in her first diving event of the day. Hardy finished fourth in the 3-meter dive with a score of 237.90.

The Jackets will return to the pool in two weeks when they host Darton on January 29 at 11 a.m. on Senior Day at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center. The team’s 15 seniors will be honored in a ceremony prior to the meet.
