Tech Student-Athletes Post 3.0+ GPA for Eighth-Straight Semester

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech student-athletes recorded a mean grade point average of 3.05 during the recently completed spring semester, marking the eight-straight semester that Tech’s student-athletes have compiled a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The 3.05 mean GPA is the fourth-highest in Georgia Tech athletics’ history, surpassed only by spring 2020 (3.23), fall 2020 (3.10) and spring 2021 (3.10). Tech’s student-athletes have recorded a mean GPA of 3.0 or higher each semester since fall 2018.

For the fifth-straight semester, women’s swimming and diving led all teams with a 3.49 team GPA. Men’s track and field/cross country topped all men’s teams with a program record 3.35 team GPA. In all, nine of the Yellow Jackets’ 13 teams* earned a 3.0 team GPA or higher (women’s swimming and diving – 3.49, women’s tennis – 3.48, volleyball – 3.38, men’s track and field/cross country – 3.35, women’s cross country/track and field – 3.32, softball – 3.29, golf – 3.16, men’s tennis – 3.06 and baseball – 3.05).

Making the academic achievements of Georgia Tech’s student-athletes even more impressive is the fact that 87% of the spring semester’s 399 student-athletes were in business (48%), engineering (24%), computing (11%) or science (4%) majors.

Academic success is a hallmark of Georgia Tech athletics. Notably, Tech athletics boasts a 90% graduation success rate in the latest data provided by the NCAA in December 2021. The 90% NCAA GSR is an all-time high for Georgia Tech, which had never achieved a GSR above 85% prior to 2016. Nine of the Yellow Jackets’ 13 teams* – men’s cross country/track & field, women’s cross country/track & field, football, golf, softball, men’s swimming & diving, women’s swimming & diving, men’s tennis and volleyball – have individual team GSRs equal to or higher than the national average in their respective sports.

Earlier this month, 76 student-athletes graduated from Georgia Tech.

* for academic reporting purposes, cross country, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field are compiled as one men’s team and one women’s team
