Tech Softball Returns to ACC Play Friday at North Carolina

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech softball team (33-9, 4-0 ACC) is after a school record for conference wins Friday when it travels to North Carolina (21-17, 0-0 ACC) for a 4 p.m. doubleheader at the UNC Softball Complex.

Tech has opened the league slate with four straight wins, matching the school record for ACC victories, which was set in 1996. The Jackets, who have won six consecutive games, are coming off a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Southern.

Tech and the Tar Heels have met 27 times, with North Carolina leading the series 16-11. The Heels have won four consecutive games against the Jackets, with Tech’s last victory coming in the 1999 ACC Tournament.

The Jackets are led by their dynamic pitching duo of Jessica Sallinger and Erin Voeltz. Sallinger is 16-4 with a 1.07 earned run average, while Voeltz is 11-4 with a 1.78 mark.

At the plate, shortstop Tara Knudsen tops the squad with a .411 average and nine homers and 35 RBI.

North Carolina is led by Tiffany Tolleson, the ACC’s leading hitter. She owns a .477 average, as the Tar Heels are batting .291 as a team.

Following the doubleheader with UNC, the Jackets will stay in Chapel Hill for the Tar Heel Invitational, which features Maryland, Virginia, the Jackets and Tar Heels. Tech will play Maryland at 2 p.m. on Saturday, followed by North Carolina at 6 p.m. Sunday the Jackets will play Virginia at 10 a.m., followed by bracket play.
