ATLANTA – Shantia Moss led the way for the Georgia Tech men’s and women’s track & field teams Friday as it hosts the 2008 Georgia Tech Invitational at the George C. Griffin Track.
Moss, a senior from Tamarac, Fla., earned a spot in the 100-meter hurdles final after crossing the line third with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.11. The 100m hurdles final is scheduled for Saturday at 3:40 p.m.
Junior Kimery Hern opened the day with a fourth-place finish in the women’s hammer throw with an NCAA Regional qualifying mark of 196 feet. Junior Alana Clooten finished eighth with a best throw of 176 feet, 10 inches.
In the women’s 100-meter dash prelims, junior Jacqua Williams placed second with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 11.67 to qualify for 100m final. Freshman Jenae Anderson crossed the line eight with a time of 12.01 to also earn a spot in the 100m final that will be run Saturday at 5 p.m.
Senior Jenny Sims placed eighth in the women’s 1500-meter run with an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 4:26.86. Junior E. C. Gibbs placed 14th in the men’s 1500m with a time of 3:49.59.
In the women’s 3,000-meter steeplechase, senior Elena Linn finished 10th with a time of 11:33.47.
Sophomore Alphonso Jordan place 13th in the men’s long jump with a mark of 23 feet, 1 ¾ inches.
The Georgia Tech Invitational continues Saturday morning with the women’s high jump at 11 a.m. Running events will commence at 2 p.m., with the women’s 4×100-meter relay. Live results for the Tech meet are available at www.deltatiming.com.
