ATLANTA – With final exams behind them, the Georgia Tech women’s basketball team (7-1) will travel to Mississippi State (8-2) on Sunday, Dec. 16 for the first game of a three-game road trip. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Humphrey Coliseum.
Fans can follow all the action on WREK radio (91.1 FM/www.wrek.org), Georgia Tech women’s basketball’s flagship station. Richard Musterer will be joined by Director of Women’s Basketball Operations LaChina Robinson on the call.
“Our game with Mississippi State is a great opportunity for our team and program,” head coach MaChelle Joseph said. “Anytime you play a Southeastern Conference team on the road you expect a battle. Mississippi State is a very good basketball team.”
The Yellow Jackets and Lady Bulldogs met last season in the championship game of the Georgia Tech/Marriott Northwest Holiday Tournament. Mississippi State earned a 62-56 come-from-behind victory over the Jackets to win the title. Three Jackets scored in double figures but it was not enough to help get the win.
Tech has not played well against the Lady Bulldogs in the past, posting a 0-2 record in Starkville and are 0-4 all-time against MSU.
In games against SEC opponents the Jackets have not faired much better, holding a 5-48 overall record, including dropping a 71-64 decision to nationally-ranked Georgia earlier in the season.
This trip will also mark the first time Janie Mitchell will return home to Mississippi wearing a Georgia Tech uniform. The senior from Jackson, Miss. is averaging 15.5 points and a team-high 8.3 rebounds this season. She was also named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week on Dec. 10 for her outstanding performance last week.
“We are looking forward to taking Janie Mitchell home to Mississippi to play in front of her friends and family,” said Joseph.
After the game, Tech will bus to Itta Bena, Miss. for a matchup with the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devilettes on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 4 p.m. ET.
