Tech Men's Tennis to Open Dual Match Season With Troy State and Mercer

Jan. 24, 2003

ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team will open its dual-match season at home on Saturday with matches against Troy State at 9 a.m. and Mercer at 3 p.m. Both matches will be contested on the indoor courts at the Bill Moore Tennis Center.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jackets will be senior Roger Anderson, who is currently ranked 21st in the preseason ITA poll, and junior Scott Schnugg, who led last year’s team with 18 dual match victories, which tied for eighth in Tech history for a season.

Anderson will return to the No. 1 spot in the lineup with Schnugg behind him at No. 2. Schnugg teamed with junior West Nott last year to win 19 doubles matches in dual-match play, which was good enough for sixth in Tech history. They will form the No. 1 doubles team in the matches this weekend.

Junior Joao Menano adds 24 career singles and 25 career doubles victories in dual matches, while Fabio Campos returns for his senior season with 10 career doubles victories in dual-match play. They will make up the middle of the singles lineup against Troy State and Mercer this weekend. Transfer Jason Pieters looks to add to his 14 career dual match victories in doubles, while freshmen Trevor McLeod and Marko Rajevac will be vying for spots in the lineup as well.

Following Saturday’s matches, Tech will have two weeks off before traveling to Alabama on February 7th. The Yellow Jackets will then return to Atlanta for five-consecutive home matches beginning February 14th. Results from all matches can be found on the internet at www.ramblinwreck.com.
