Tech Men's Tennis Begins Play at Baylor Intercollegiates

WACO, Tex. – David North won a pair of singles matches in the Gold Draw Bracket at the Baylor 2006 HEB Intercollegiate to lead Georgia Tech on day one of the tournament that is being contested at the Baylor Tennis Center Sept. 22-24.

North stopped Rice’s Jason Mok, 6-3, 6-3, before fighting back with a 6-7 (8), 6-2, 6-1 win over 82nd-ranked Matt Brown of Baylor in Friday’s singles action to advance to the Round of 16 in singles play. He also teamed with Eric Molnar to make the quarterfinals of the Green Draw doubles bracket, and will begin play Saturday.

Molnar, ranked No. 31 in the nation in singles, defeated Jose Pablo Arizpe of Laredo Community College, 6-4, 6-4, but couldn’t get past Texas A&M-Corpus Christi’s 79th-ranked Andrey Kumantzov, falling 6-3, 6-4 in the round of 32.

Elsewhere in singles play, Tech’s 93rd-ranked Jordan Delass won each of his first sets but had trouble finishing his opponents off, falling to Texas A&M’s Matt Bain, 6-4, 3-6, 1-6 in the round of 64 before dropping a 6-4, 4-6, 4-10 match to Mikhail Pavlov of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first round of consolations.

Molnar and North will return to action Saturday morning, while the championship matches will be contested on Sunday.
