THE FLATS – Seven members of Georgia Tech football’s 2022 squad – long snapper Henry Freer (College Park, Ga./Woodward Academy), place kicker Jude Kelley (Acworth, Ga./Allatoona H.S.), tight end Dylan Leonard (Milton, Ga./Milton H.S.), defensive lineman Jason Moore (Hampton, Ga./Dutchtown), defensive back Clayton Powell-Lee (Atlanta, Ga./Westlake H.S.), punter David Shanahan (Castleisland, Co. Kerry, Ireland/St. Patrick’s Secondary School) and place kicker Gavin Stewart (Savannah, Ga./Benedictine Military Academy) – have all been named to the all-Atlantic Coast Conference academic team, the ACC announced on Tuesday.
All-ACC academic team members maintain a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative grade point average while appearing in at least half of their team’s contests that season.
Leading the way for Georgia Tech is Freer, who holds a near-4.0 cumulative grade point average as a chemical and biomolecular engineering major. He is on track to earn his bachelor’s degree this spring and has been accepted into Georgia Tech’s prestigious Ph.D. program in chemical and biomolecular engineering in the fall.
Freer is the first football student-athlete to ever be admitted to a Ph.D. program at Georgia Tech during his playing career.
Georgia Tech’s seven honorees are all majoring in engineering (Freer, Moore – nuclear and radiological engineering and Powell-Lee – civil engineering) or business administration (Kelley, Leonard, Shanahan and Stewart).
