ATLANTA – The Georgia Tech women’s basketball team hosts Davidson Friday evening at Alexander Memorial Coliseum in the second game of a 2007-08 season-opening doubleheader with the men’s basketball team.
The contest is slated to begin at 8 p.m. or 20 minutes after the conclusion of the men’s game, which begins at 6:00 p.m. against UNC-Greensboro. The Yellow Jackets lead the series with Davidson, 2-1, including winning the last meeting between the two schools, 60-54, on Dec. 2, 2003 at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Tech is 23-10 in season openers and 16-4 (since 1978-79 season) in openers at home. Under head coach MaChelle Joseph, Georgia Tech is 4-0 in the first game of the season.
Tech is coming off an 80-79 loss to Team Reebok last Sunday in an exhibition game at Alexander Memorial Coliseum. Senior Janie Mitchell led five Jackets in double-digit scoring with 21 points but it was not enough to overcome the Premier Players.
Senior Chioma Nnamaka scored 15 points and had four steals for Tech. Also scoring in double-figures was freshman Iasia Hemingway, who had an outstanding debut, scoring 11 points including two huge buckets down the stretch. Sophomore Jacqua Williams scored 12 points and senior Jill Ingram added 13 points off the bench for Tech.
Tickets for Friday’s game, $4 for adults and $2 for children and senior citizens, can be purchased at the door.
