Tech Drops Weather-Shortened Midweek to Mercer

Box Score (.pdf)

MACON, Ga. – Georgia Tech baseball would only get six innings to battle Mercer on Tuesday night, falling 7-6 at OrthoGeorgia Park due to inclement weather that entered the area.

The Yellow Jackets (30-22) had climbed within one run with the tying run on first and one out when the game was suspended due to an incoming storm. As the storm rolled through, the game was eventually called with the result standing through what had been played to that moment.

Offensively, Tech recorded six hits for its six runs. Stephen Reid and John Giesler both drove in two runs on the day on their hits while Jack Rubenstein drew a bases loaded hit by pitch. Jake DeLeo, Angelo Dispigna, Nicholas Romano and Jadyn Jackson all recorded hits on the night with Dispigna rocketing a double in the game.

On the mound, Tech used two pitchers. Starter LHP Camron Hill went 2.0 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. LHP Dalton Smith (2-3), took the tough-luck loss in the shortened affair, allowing four runs on four hits in 3.0 innings.

The Bears (32-20) were led by Eric Toth, who went 2-for-3 with two home runs. RHP Micah Takac (1-0) took the win, allowing two runs on three hits in 3.0 innings of relief.

Georgia Tech finishes up the regular season at home when it hosts No. 21 Virginia in a huge ACC finale on May 18-20. First pitch for Thursday is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.

Postgame Notes:

  • Because five full innings were played, the game is considered complete.
  • Because the stats in the top of the sixth did not impact the outcome of the game, the stats count and the game finishes 7-6, per NCAA rules.
