Tech Concludes Zone Diving Championships

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech diving competed at the final day of the Zone ‘B’ Diving Championships, hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center.

There was only one event on the day, the men’s platform. Ruben Lechuga and Allen Mann competed on the day, both qualifying for finals.

Mann was in 16th place while Lechuga was in 12th place after prelims. Scores are cumulative and Lechuga would need to gain 32.10 points on seventh place to secure the final qualifying spot.

Lechuga started strong in finals with a seven bingo on his first dive, a forward 3 ½ somersault pike (107B) off of 10m to score 63.00. After five rounds, Lechuga had gained 19.30 points on seventh place to give put qualifying for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships in sight, just 12.80 points shy of qualifying. Lechuga would score low on his final dive, ultimately placing 12th.

Coming into finals in 16th place, Mann would hold in that position through finals. His best dive was a back 2 ½ somersault tuck (205C) off of 10m which he scored 55.50.

The White and Gold compete next at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted at McAuley Aquatic Center. Tech will have three athletes competing at the event. McKenzie Campbell will be competing in the 200 IM (3/17), 400 IM (3/18) and 200 fly (3/19).

Anna Bradescu and Camryn Hidalgo both qualified during the zone diving championships. Bradescu will compete on platform (3/19) and Hidalgo will compete on 1-meter (3/17), 3-meter (3/18) and platform (3/19).
