Tech Basketball to Kickoff Season with Picnic with Paul and Agnus

Nov. 15, 2001

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech basketball fans can celebrate the opening of the 2001-02 season by attending Picnic with Paul and Agnus tomorrow at noon at Alexander Memorial Coliseum at McDonald’s Center.

Men’s head coach Paul Hewitt and women’s head coach Agnus Berenato will be in attendance, and the first 150 fans will receive free lunch from Chick-fil-A. Those in attendance should enter the Coliseum at Gate 3 and follow the signs to the Hyder Room.

Both teams will open regular season play tomorrow night at the Coliseum. The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. against Kansas State, followed by the men, who will take on Florida A&M at 7:30 p.m.

The men are led by senior point guard Tony Akins of Lilburn, Ga., who led the Jackets in scoring last season with 14.5 points per game, and sophomore Marvin Lewis, who posted 8.7 points per game as a rookie. Tech also welcomes five freshmen into the fold this season.

The Yellow Jacket women will be paced by seniors Regina Tate, who returns after missing last season due to injury, and Milli Martinez, who averaged 13.2 points per outing a year ago. Tate averaged 6.7 points and 6.8 rebounds per game in the 1999-2000 season.
