Aug. 6, 2012

LONDON – The captain of the USA men’s track Olympic squad and former Georgia Tech hurdler Angelo Taylor finished fifth in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at Olympic Stadium in London, England Monday.

The race will air tape-delayed tonight on NBC’s prime time Olympic coverage.

Taylor crossed the line in 48.25, behind David Greene of Great Britain who finished in fourth place one one hundredth of a second sooner than Taylor.

Taylor is a four-time Olympian, and won the gold medal in the 400-meter hurdles in the 2000 Sydney and the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

This year, Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic earned the gold medal with a time of 47.63. Michael Tinsley (USA, 47.91) earned the silver medal and Javier Culson (Puerto Rico, 48.10) won the bronze.

Also representing the USA and Georgia Tech track and field in the Summer Olympics is high jumper Chaunte (Howard) Lowe. She will jump in the qualifying round on Thursday, Aug. 9, and the finals are set for Saturday, Aug. 11.
