Swimmer Gal Nevo Top Five Finisher at European Short Course Championships

ISTANBUL – Georgia Tech men’s swimmer Gal Nevo had an impressive showing in the 200-IM at the European Short Course Championships today in Istanbul.

In the 200-IM, Nevo finished fifth in the finals of the event, hitting the wall in 1:54.17. Nevo finished 2.45 seconds behind winner Markus Rogan of Austria, who hit the wall in 1:51.72, a new European record.

Nevo earned a spot in the finals after finishing in 1:55.22 in preliminaries to finish in a tie for ninth and clinch one of the last remaining spots in the finals.

Nevo, the 2008-09 ACC Swimmer of the Year and an 08-09 All American selection, was representing him home country of Israel in the meet. He and the rest of the Yellow Jackets return to the pool on Jan. 16 when they take on ACC-foe NC State.
