For some Georgia Tech student-athletes, the summer is when they get better — a time for work and working out. For others, there is travel overseas. A sample of what various Yellow Jacket student-athletes are up to this summer:
Women’s Tennis
Viet Ha Ngo — going to Spain
Lynn Blau — going to France and home to Luxembourg
Amanda McDowell — will travel with USTA Collegiate Team
Irina Falconi — will train at home in Jupiter and in Tampa; hopes to make USTA Collegiate Team
Women’s Basketball
Metra Walthour — hopes to intern with Turner Sports
Shaday Woolcock — interning for the second straight summer with the Georgia Tech Communication and Marketing department
Men’s Basketball
Lance Storrs — participated in John Lucas’ skills camp recently in Houston. Also, playing on a traveling team of college players for a week in Nassau, Bahamas
Brad Sheehan — going to participate in the Pete Newell big man camp in August
Iman Shumpert — has been invited to be a college counselor in the Darren Williams Nike Skills Camp and the LeBron James Camp
D’Andre Bell — is going home to Los Angeles
Men’s Golf
Cameron Tringale — rather than turn pro after the NCAA Championship, will remain an amateur this summer, play a full amateur schedule and try to make the Walker Cup team.
Volleyball
Alison Campbell — traveling to Africa for fun
Asia Stawicka — going back to her native Germany to visit family
Men’s Tennis
Dean O’Brien — going to the Canary Islands this summer to play in a futures tournament
Miguel Muguruza — just returned from Aruba
Football
Sean Bedford — working at Turner Broadcasting
Austin Barrick — working at Druid Hills Golf Club
Michael Ray — working for Brasfield & Gorrie
Brad Sellers — working at Druid Hills Golf Club
Kyle Jackson — working at Drew, Eckl & Farham, LLP
Demaryius Thomas — working with FCA, summer school
Steven Powers — working at Camp Winshope
Kevin Crosby — internship with Smith Barney
Stephen Mann — internship at Rockwell Collins
Jason Davis — internship with Northwestern Mutual
Osahon Tongo — internship with Velvet Suite
Track and Field
Billy Mateker — has a fellowship for undergraduate research in advanced materials at Tech. Specifically, he is going to research carbon nanotubes for use in electronics.
Mellany Stanislaus — going to Spain at the end of June to study and earn credits for Spanish minor
Mykhail Chambers — interning with Ameren Utilities in Illinois. Will also participate in Athletes in Action track and field development camp in Ohio.
Alana Clooten — interning with Accenture – an Atlanta consulting firm – working on a project with Cox Communications
Softball
Jen Yee — playing for Team Canada
Whitney Haller — will be an intern at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta
Caroline Hilton — will be doing research in the air transportation lab here at Georgia Tech and will work on air traffic control and auto pilot systems
