Sydney Griffin joined Georgia Tech as the associate athletics director of development operations for the Alexander-Tharpe Fund in August 2024. She brings a wealth of experience from her previous role at Army West Point, where she served as associate athletics director of external strategy and operations for three years. At Georgia Tech, Griffin will manage the Alexander-Tharpe Fund Foundation’s operations and ensure robust support for the foundation’s initiatives.

At Army West Point, Griffin played a pivotal role in overseeing the marketing and video departments and aligning strategic resources across all external areas of the athletic department. She was also a key member of the athletic director’s executive team, contributed significantly to the Army-Navy Star Series, led the production of the annual Army-Navy uniform reveal video, and served as a sport administrator for cross country/track and field and men’s basketball teams. Additionally, Griffin represented the Patriot League on the NCAA Division I Cross Country/Track and Field Committee for two years.

Before her tenure at Army West Point, Griffin served as chief of staff to the director of athletics at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tenn. There, she managed front office and administrative operations, led strategic initiatives as part of the athletic director’s cabinet, and played a major role in head coach search committees for football and men’s and women’s basketball programs. She also served as a sport administrator for several programs.

Griffin’s career began with a year-long role as an athletics administration fellow at the University of Notre Dame, where she worked in both the administration and Fighting Irish media departments, reporting to the chief strategy officer and the director of athletics.

A native of Marietta, Ga., Griffin has international experience from her time in London, where she completed a master of science in sport management at the University of East London and competed as a semi-professional track and field athlete across eight European countries.

A 2016 graduate of Elon University, Griffin was a standout athlete, earning six individual conference medals, qualifying three times for the NCAA East Regional, and being named the Most Outstanding Performer at the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association Outdoor Track & Field Championship. She led her team to consecutive CAA titles, winning the 200-meter dash, 100-meter hurdles, and 4×100 relay, and was honored with Elon’s 2016 Stein H. Basnight Outstanding Athlete of the Year Award. During her undergraduate studies in psychology and exercise science, Griffin participated in the Duke Athletics Open Door Initiative, an internship program designed to provide ethnic minority undergraduates with career experience in athletics.
