Patrice Whitfield currently serves as a sport psychology clinician at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she supports the mental health and performance needs of student-athletes through individual counseling, team-based consultation and coach education. Whitfield brings a holistic and intersectional lens to her work, aiming to help student-athletes align overall well-being with high-level performance.
With more than five years of experience in the private practice sector, Whitefield has developed a strong specialization in supporting high-performing professionals and athletes. Her work includes providing sport performance consultations, mental skills training and psychological support tailored to the unique demands of competitive and professional environments.
Prior to Georgia Tech, she served as the director of mental health & performance for the Chicago Sky, working directly with WNBA athletes and staff. She has worked with a wide range of performers—including youth, collegiate and professional athletes—offering services such as individual counseling, team-based programming and performance coaching across multiple sports.
A Texas native, Whitfield earned her bachelor of arts in psychology from Baylor University, where her passion for sport psychology began as a student manager for the Baylor women’s basketball team during their national championship run. She earned her masters of arts in counseling with a specialization in sport and health psychology from Adler University in Chicago, where she also completed a mental performance internship with the University of Chicago Athletics Department.
Whitfield is deeply committed to helping student-athletes and performers thrive—both personally and professionally—by creating spaces that prioritize mental wellness, identity development and growth. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her wife and dog, watching sports and a good restaurant.
