Dr. Kenneth L. Ayers currently serves as a sport psychology clinician at the Georgia Institute of Technology. Dr. Ayers specializes in providing mental health and mental performance services to student-athletes, consults with coaches and works within the interdisciplinary sport medicine staff to improve treatment outcomes.
Dr. Ayers earned his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the Virginia Consortium Program in Clinical Psychology – Eastern Virginia Medical School, Norfolk State University and Old Dominion University. He went on to complete his clinical internship in health psychology with rotations in sports psychology and a post-doctoral fellowship in sports & performance psychology, both at Rutgers University. Dr. Ayers completed his pre-doctoral clinical training at the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters in assessment and inpatient consultation and liaison services. He also completed clinical training in health psychology at Norfolk State University and pediatric and trauma mental health services at a non-profit clinic for military service members and their families.
Dr. Ayers earned his M.A. in clinical counseling psychology from The Citadel Graduate College and completed clinical training in health psychology at the College of Charleston and trauma & resilience mental health services at the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Ayers earned his bachelor of science in biology pre-medicine from Florida A&M University.
In addition to his training in psychology, Dr. Ayers also completed medical science training at the Medical University of South Carolina and has over eight years of experience providing clinical services to veterans and military personnel.
