A member of Georgia Tech athletics’ staff since 2017, John D. Tweedy was named associate athletics director for operations and capital projects in February 2022.

Tweedy joined the GTAA staff as assistant A.D. for facilities, events and operations in 2017. In his role, he has overseen Georgia Tech athletics’ facilities, event management and championship operations, as well as directed a wide variety of capital projects. Capital projects directed by Tweedy include the multi-million dollar refresh of Bobby Dodd Stadium and renovation of women’s basketball’s locker room and team area in 2020, Phase II of upgrades at Mac Nease Baseball Park in 2020-21 and the in-progress renovation of the track and field locker room and team area.

Tweedy came to The Flats after spending two years as the director of event management at the University of Minnesota. In that role, he served as the primary game administrator for football and men’s basketball and was also responsible for planning and oversight of other large scale events held in Minnesota’s TCF Bank Stadium, including the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings (2015-16), MLS’s Minnesota United (2017), NHL Stadium Series game between the Minnesota Wild and Chicago Blackhawks (2016) and the Beyonce’ Formation Tour (2016). He also represented Minnesota as tournament director for all Big Ten, Western Collegiate Hockey Association and NCAA championship events held in the Twin Cities.

Prior to his two-year stint at Minnesota, Tweedy also served as director of athletic operations and events at Akron (2014-2015), assistant director of event operations at UCF (2012-14) and operations coordinator at Georgia State (2010-12), as well as completing an internship with the Atlanta Falcons (2010-11).

An Augusta, Ga. native, he earned a B.S. in sport management from Georgia Southern (2009) and an M.S. in sport administration from Georgia State (2011). He began his collegiate career as a track and field student-athlete at the University of Memphis before transferring to Georgia Southern.
