THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech softball team fell to Georgia, 13-2, Sunday in its fall finale at Mewborn Field. With the loss, the Jackets tallied a 5-2 record throughout the fall season.
Originally scheduled as a doubleheader, the Jackets and Bulldogs decided on a single-game of 10 innings in which Georgia out-hit Tech, 16-12.
The Bulldogs scored six runs in the first inning and never looked back. Georgia Tech junior Kylie Kleinschmidt took the loss, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts and two walks in 5.1 innings pitched.
The Jackets’ two runs came in the third inning. Ashley Thomas singled to lead off the inning. Chelsie Thomas reached base on a single and Maddie Lionberger followed with a fielder’s choice that took out Ashley Thomas at third.
Karly Fullem grounded out, which brought Alysha Rudnik to the plate with two on and two outs. Rudnik delivered with a grounder through the infield, scoring both Chelsie Thomas and Lionberger.
