Softball Drops Decision at Virginia Tech

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Georgia Tech softball (10-25, 3-8 ACC) fell 13-6 at Virginia Tech (15-18, 5-9) in game two of the series on Saturday. The series finale is set for Sunday at 1 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.
 
How It Happened
The Hokies took a quick 5-0 lead through the first two innings. Georgia Tech got on the board with a pair of runs in the fourth. Draven Sonnon and Crosby Huckabay drew walks, and Kaylee Ellebracht’s double blasted to right center scored both runners.
 
The Jackets got within two, 5-3, after Jessica Kowalewicz was hit by a pitch and scored on a double by Malea Bell.
 
The Hokies recovered with three runs in the top of the fifth to extend their lead, 8-3, and the Jackets rallied again to pull within two, 8-6.
 
With one out in the sixth, Huckabay drew her third walk of the game and Drew Puckett singled. Pierannunzi drew her team leading 24th walk of the season to load the bases with two outs. Kowalewicz stepped into the box and roped a bases-clearing double to bring the Jackets within two.
 
Virginia Tech widened the gap with a five-run sixth inning to go ahead 13-6. Sonnon got a hit in the top of the seventh, but the Hokies closed the door for the game-two win.
 
The Jackets used all three pitchers in the loss with starter Emily Anderson (2-8) as the pitcher of record. Anderson threw the first 1.1 innings and gave up five runs on seven hits.
 
Virginia Tech starter Aysha Richardson (2-5) earned the win, throwing the first four innings with three urns on one hit and six walks.
