LEXINGON, Ky. – – Tiffany Chavis, Alphonso Jordan and Bailey Wagner all finished fourth in respective events to lead the Yellow Jackets with six top-10 finishes on the final day of competition at the Kentucky Invitational Saturday.
Chavis ended in a four-way tie for fourth place in the high jump, making her final clearance at 5-05.25 as she was unable to go any higher. Auburn’s Raven Harris won the event with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 6-02.25. Tech freshman Bianca Stewart came in ninth place with a mark of 5-05.25.
Freshman Bailey Wagner continued her strong freshman campaign with a fourth-best distance of 48 feet, 3 ¼ inches in the shot put. After winning her first collegiate event one week ago in Clemson, the Lake Villa, Ill. native topped that mark by nearly two inches in Lexington.
Junior Alphono Jordan’s fourth place finish came in the long jump, as he jumped a distance of 23-11.75.
In the running events, sophomore Janae Anderson finished in ninth place in the 200 meter dash after running a 24.58.
Senior Casey Gramling was the other top-10 finish, coming in 10th-place in the mile at a pace of 4:20.12.
Senior Jerome Miller was the lone champion for the Jackets on the weekend, as he won the high jump Friday evening with a mark of 6 feet, 10 ¼ inches.
The Jackets return to action next weekend, Jan. 23-24, as they head to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Razorback Invitational.
