Georgia Tech’s Chris Sinotte set a school record in the javelin, and Nicole Campbell, Sara Pardue, Brendon Mahoney and Bryan Swarn achieved NCAA provisional qualifying performances to highlight the Yellow Jacket Invitational at the Griffin Track on the Tech campus.

Sinotte’s throw of 227 feet-one inch bettered the Tech record that had stood since 1989 and also qualified him provisionally for the NCAA Championships.

Sinotte, Campbell, Mahoney, Zeb Sion (shot put), Ian Brewer (hammer), Kyle Rabbit (5,000) and the 4×400-meter relay team of Brian Ford, Aaron Sink, Sharif Azim and Swarn won events for Tech.

Mahoney, already automatically qualified in the 1500 meters, won the 800 with a provisional time of 1:48.51. Campbell made it a Tech sweep in the 800 with a 2:05.12 clocking to win the race, while Pardue was third at 2:06.14.

Swarn was the top collegian in the 400 meters with a time of 46.04, finishing behind Olympic gold medalists and former Yellow Jackets Angelo Taylor (45.70) and Derek Mills (46.00).

Sion won the shot put with a throw of 56 feet, 9.25 inches, while Brewer tossed the hammer 185 feet, 10 inches for first place. Rabbit clocked 14:32.55 to win the 5,000, while Tech’s 4×400 relay team ran 3:08.46 to easily outdistance the field by more than six seconds.
