This weekend the men’s and women’s cross country teams will head to Boston, Mass. to compete in the ACC Championships held at the prestigious Franklin Park on Saturday, October 30. The meet will kick off at 10 a.m. with the women’s race, followed by the men’s race at 11 a.m.
This trip marks the first time that the Jackets have ever competed in Boston and the first time that the ACC Championships have been held there.
“There is a lot of excitement for this ACC Championship for everyone – student-athletes, coaches, and fans,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “From the time Boston College joined the ACC, they have been wanting to host the championship on the storied Franklin Park course. So the setting will be awesome and the atmosphere at the championships is always fantastic.”
Franklin Park, host to the 1992 World Cross Country Championships, will once again see talent returning to the course as some of the very best in the NCAA will be competing on the weekend. Five men’s teams are ranked amongst the top twenty-five nationally while six women’s teams are ranked amongst the top thirty nationally.
“We’re anxious to compete Saturday,” continued Drosky, “both squads have steadily progressed throughout the season and have made improvements from meet to meet. From a physical standpoint, we can’t be happier where the teams are and we’re confident they are very prepared. With the same intensity they brought to our last meet, we think we’ll see some really good results.”
Tech is coming off of one of its best races of the season at the Royal Cross Country Challenge in Charlotte, N.C. Mary Kate DuBard led all Tech runners with a fourth place finish in the women’s race of 190 runners, second among college athletes, with a season best time of 17:22.8. The men’s top-finisher, for the first time this season, D.J. McMillan came across in sixth of 202 runners with a time of 24:27.7. Each of the top-5 women’s runners finished in the top-50 while the top-5 male athletes all crossed the line in the top-25.
