Sauer, Muguruza and Miller Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA–Volleyball standout Lauren Sauer, tennis stars Jose Luis Muguruza and Kristi Miller were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, October 25, 2004.

Sauer, a senior from Huntsville, Ala., helped the Yellow Jackets to two ACC road wins over NC State and North Carolina. Against NC State, she posted a career high four solo blocks. The next night, she had a season high 24 kills against North Carolina. For the week, she averaged 6.00 kills per game and 1.71 blocks per game while hitting .364.

Muguruza, a sophomore from Wesley Chapel, Fla., reached the semifinals of the ITA South Region Championships. He posted a 4-1 record on the weekend. Muguruza defeated 31st ranked Derrick Spice of Wake Forest to reach the quarterfinals, and then defeated 27th ranked Nathan Thompson of Clemson in the quarterfinals in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. He posted a 2-1 against ranked opponents on the weekend.

Miller, a freshman from Marysville, Mich., reached the Round of 16 at the ITA South Region Championships. She improved her fall record to 18-2. Miller posted a 3-1 record on the weekend in singles action. She teamed with Alison Siverio in doubles and posted a 2-1 record.
