ATLANTA – For their second meet of the year, the men’s and women’s cross country teams will head back to Athens for a mid-week dual meet with Georgia on September 16. The women will begin things at 6 p.m. followed by the men’s race at 6:30 p.m.
“The dual meet with Georgia is something we look forward to each year,” said head coach Alan Drosky. “We know it’s a great opportunity to showcase our sport and bring out the best in us. It’s head-to-head competition on a classic cross country course.”
This will also be just the second meet of the season for Georgia, who will host their second meet in a row at the UGA Equestrian Complex.
“Both the men’s and women’s races will be interesting,” continued Drosky. “We want to focus on running our race, which is a more conservative start and a strong finish, and we want to make sure we improve from our last outing. Of course we also hope to get a couple of wins.”
The two teams will meet head-to-head for the third-straight season and fourth time overall, Tech is looking for its first win over the Bulldogs. With both of the Tech men’s and women’s teams ranked 12th in the South Region in the coaches association poll, the victory would be quite an upset over the fifth-ranked men’s team and fourth-ranked lady-Bulldogs.
“The men’s team has a pretty tight pack, but we’ll have to close the gap on UGA a little better than we did two weeks ago,” explained Drosky. “The women’s team will should be better up front than two weeks ago with the addition of Mary Kate [DuBard] and Betsy [Kim], who race for the first time this season. The middle of our line-up needs to have some strong performances.”
