Prokhenvska, Woodard Advance to Main Singles Draw

Singles Qualifying Bracket 

ATHENS, Ga. – Seniors Natasha Prokhnevska and Kendal Woodard of the Georgia Tech women’s tennis team kicked off play for the Yellow Jackets at the USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga., on Thursday afternoon.

Prokhnevska and Woodard competed in the qualifying singles round where Woodard was the number two seed in the bracket and Prokhnevska was the number three seed. Both the Jackets had byes in the first round and won their second round matches which secured them a spot in the main singles draw.

With the two victories in the qualifying singles round, all eight Yellow Jackets are now in the main singles draw.

Woodard faced Florida Atlantic’s Kahala Companion in the round of 16 in qualifying singles and defeated Companion, 6-1, 6-1. Prokhnevska also took on an opponent from Florida Atlantic, playing Jennifer Leib and winning, 6-1, 6-0.

The USTA/ITA Southeast Regionals features 15 schools from across Georgia and Florida, 80 singles players and 37 doubles teams. Play continues tomorrow with a 9 a.m. start and will feature the round of 32 in the doubles main draw, the round of 64 and round of 32 in the singles main draw. The main draws of both singles and doubles will be released later this evening.
