Powlen Leads Jackets on Final Day of Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen posted a mark of 54 feet, 10 inches, to finish fifth in the shot put to lead the Georgia Tech men’s track and field team at the Meyo Invitational on Saturday.

Sophomore Derek Hoye finished fourth in the men’s 400 meters with a season-best time of 47.33. Freshman Nigel Orr finished sixth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 3 ¼ inches.

In the men’s high jump, sophomore Jerome Miller and freshman Juan Cave posted top-eight finishes for the Jackets. Both posted a mark of 6 feet, 9 ½ inches, to finish sixth and seventh, respectively.

Leading Tech in the mile was freshman E.C. Gibbs and junior David Herren. Gibbs clocked a season-best time of 4:17.19 to finish 12th, while Herren finished 13th with a time of 4:20.08.

The Yellow Jackets will travel to Clemson, S.C., for the Tiger Classic next Friday and Saturday, Feb. 10-11.
