TEAM NOTES
• Reminiscent of the Jan. 9 game vs. Virginia, Georgia Tech re-inserted Quinton Stephens into the starting lineup for Josh Heath, along with Marcus Georges-Hunt and Adam Smith along the perimeter, with Nick Jacobs and Charles Mitchell in the post. It was Tech’s seventh different starting lineup this season. Also reminiscent of Virginia, Tech won the game, and Stephens scored in double digits in each game.
• Marcus Georges-Hunt is now the only Yellow Jacket to start every game this season.
• One game after matching a season-low for points at Clemson, Georgia Tech scored 86 points and exceeded 80 for the sixth time this season. In conference play, the Yellow Jackets also scored 90 at NC State in Jan. 27 and 84 at Pittsburgh on Jan. 6.
• In snapping a 10-game losing streak to Florida State, Tech also put up its most points against the Seminoles in the last 11 games of the series. It was the highest scoring game between the two teams since the Jackets took an 88-80 win on Jan. 13, 2007 in Atlanta.
• Tech led at the half for the seventh time in 13 ACC games this season (43-34), and for the 17th time this season. The Yellow Jackets are 11-6 when leading at the half.
• Tech shot 53.8 percent for the game and 50 percent in each half. It was the second time in an ACC game and fifth time overall this season that the Yellow Jackets shot 50 percent or better in a game. Tech is 4-1 when they do this season, 25-3 under Brian Gregory.
• Tech led by 17 points on two occasions, its largest lead in an ACC game this season. The Yellow Jackets held leads of 15 points against Virginia, Virginia Tech and NC State.
• Tech’s four post players accounted for only 22 of its 86 points, hitting 11-of-14 from the floor.
• Tech committed 14 turnovers, the fourth game in a row and the eighth time in 13 ACC games the Jackets have reached double digits, and Seminoles cashed them in for 21 points, while the Yellow Jackets scored only five points off of nine Clemson turnovers. Tech ranks fourth in the ACC and came in 16th nationally at 10.6 per game (10.5 in conference games). Nationally, the Jackets have improved from 195th in the nation last year. However, the Jackets also rank at the bottom of the ACC and the nation in turnovers forced.
• Tech took 12 offensive rebounds but converted them into only 10 points. FSU converted eight offensive boards into 13 points.
• Overall, Tech dominated FSU on the boards, 32-25, for the game. The Yellow Jackets have out-rebounded 21 of their 26 opponents, with two ties, this season; and 10 of 13 ACC foes. Tech remains fourth in the ACC and came into the game 26th in the nation in rebound margin (+7.0 per game, +3.6 in ACC games).
• Tech had more assists (16) than turnovers (14) for the 10th time in 13 ACC games. The Jackets are 38th nationally in that category (+1.3 per game both in ACC games and in all games) after finishing the 2014-15 season 244th. Tech is 11-7 this season when it has more assists than turnovers.
• Tech was out-scored at the free throw line for the 11th time in 13 ACC games (22-21), but not because they fouled more or gave up more attempts. The Jackets committed 20 fouls to FSU’s 25 and attempted 30 free throws to the Seminoles’ 27. Tech has won the free throw battle only once in ACC play at NC State, hitting 29-of-34 from the line compared to 19-of-24 for NC State, and tied Wake Forest (13-13). In Tech’s other 10 ACC games, the Jackets have been out-scored from the line, 190-113, 138-54 in the second half of those games.
