PITTSBURGH – A four-run second inning and a six-run fourth by Pittsburgh gave the Panthers enough cushion for a 13-6 win over No. 24 Georgia Tech under gray skies Sunday afternoon.

Georgia Tech (23-8, 7-8 ACC) was denied back-to-back ACC road series wins for the first time in 2011, while the Yellow Jackets fell to 2-8 when allowing seven or more runs in a game. Pittsburgh (14-13, 6-8 ACC) is now 4-1 all-time at home against the Jackets.

THE BASICS
• Sunday’s loss snapped Tech’s 3-game winning streak this week and prevented Tech from posting back-to-back ACC road series wins for the first time since 2011.
Wade Bailey and Connor Justus have combined to turn 27 of Georgia Tech’s 45 double plays. Either Bailey or Connor has been involved in 42 of Tech’s 45 double plays.
• Sunday was just the 8th time this season the Yellow Jackets played in a game lasting more than 3 hours. Georgia Tech is now 3-5 in those games.
• Georgia Tech is now 17-3 when scoring 5 or more runs in a game.
• Georgia Tech has used 25 different lineups in the first 31 games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
• Pitt took a 1-0 lead in the 1st. After Jacob Wright drew a lead-off walk, he moved off to 2nd on Charles Leblanc’s sacrifice bunt. A passed ball by Arden Pabst allowed Wright to move to 3rd. Nick Yarnall played Wright with an RBI sacrifice bunt.
• Pitt added to its lead with a 4-run 2nd for a 5-0 Panthers lead. Caleb Parry delivered a 2-run double to left-center to give the Panthers a 3-0 advantage. Three batters later, Leblanc plated Wright and Parry with a 2-RBI single to center.
• Georgia Tech clawed its way back to within a run in the 4th, 5-4. With the bases loaded, Tristin English delivered a 1-out, 3-RBI double to left-center, cutting Pitt’s lead to 5-3. Two batters later, English scored on a fielding error by Pitt 3B Matt Johnson.
• The Panthers put the game out of reach in the bottom of the 4th. Burton Dulaney walked Johnson to lead off the inning and then Wright doubled to left-center for a 6-4 lead. With one on, Leblanc laced an RBI single to left. Nick Yarnall followed with a 2-run home run to right for a 9-4 lead. Later in the inning, Parry scored two more runs for an 11-4 Pitt lead.
• Tech added a run in the 5th thanks to Joey Bart’s RBI fielder’s choice.
• Another Jackets run in the 6th thanks to a Wade Bailey RBI single cut Pitt’s lead to 11-6.
• Pittsburgh added two more runs in the 7th.

QUOTE BOARD
“We walked too many guys. We had a chance for a double play early on and didn’t do it. But we’re walking too many guys, errors scattered here and there. You just can’t win when you make it that easy for teams to score. Credit to Pitt, they got some hits when they needed them, but we didn’t do what we needed to get guys out.” – Georgia Tech head coach Danny Hall on the Jackets’ 13-6 loss

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Sophomore Trevor Craport extended his hit streak to 6 games after going 2-for-5.
Tristin English drove in a team-high 3 runs with a 3-run double to left-center in the 4th. English finished the day 2-for-5.
• Five Jackets went 2-for-5 at the plate, including the top of Tech’s batting order in Wade Bailey, Connor Justus and Matt Gonzalez.
• Georgia Tech turned its NCAA-leading 45th double play of the season.
