Pentathletes Conclude Day One of ACC Track & Field Championships

Junior Tiffany Chavis placed 12th in the women’s pentathlon as Two Yellow Jackets competed on day one of competition at the 2009 ACC Track & Field Indoor Championships Thursday in Blacksburg, Va. The meet resumes Friday at 1 p.m. with the women’s long jump and weight throw at the Rector Field House.

Chavis, a Marietta, Ga. native, was poised to score a point for the Tech women as she stood in eighth-place with 2937 points and just one event left. The 800 meter run however, was the achilles’ heel as Chavis finished 19th with a 2:41.77 time causing her to slip to 12th in the overall standings.

Sophomore Kayla McKeirnan also competed on the day for the Jackets, placing 14th with 3433 points. McKeirnan’s best finish came in the 800 meter run as her 2:21.20 was the sixth best pace in the event.
