Offense Progresses in Second Tech Scrimmage

Aug. 15, 2006

ATLANTA–Reggie Ball’s 40-yard touchdown pass to all-America wide receiver Calvin Johnson highlighted Georgia Tech’s second preseason scrimmage, held Tuesday night at Bobby Dodd Stadium/Grant Field.

The brief scrimmage also provided an opportunity for the Atlantic Coast Conference to do its annual preseason test of the instant replay system.

Tech head coach Chan Gailey was pleased with the progress that the offense showed in this scrimmage compared to last Saturday’s sluggish performance.

“The first couple of drives, we moved the football and got a couple of first downs, even when we didn’t stick it in, so it was better,” said Gailey. “We had the one big play and had a chance to make a couple of more.”

Ball passed for 75 yard and backup quarterback Taylor Bennett also threw a touchdown pass to freshman fullback Trevor Bray.

The Tech defense also had its moments, highlighted by an interception by safety Tony Clark and sacks by KaMichael Hall, Pat Clark and Philip Wheeler.

The Jackets return to practice Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
