ATLANTA – The ninth-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team has drawn No. 3 California in the opening round of the 2010 ITA National Team Indoor Championships, which will take place Feb. 12-15 at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

“I think we will take the momentum we established against Kentucky and bring it up north when we play California,” head coach Bryan Shelton said. “We have a lot of good memories from playing in Wisconsin. We are excited for the opportunity we created and look forward to taking advantage of it.”

In addition to the two-time Indoor Champion Yellow Jackets and their opponent Cal, this year’s 16-team field includes: Baylor, Clemson, Duke, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan, North Carolina, Tennessee, UCLA, USC and host Wisconsin.

The Yellow Jackets and Golden Bears will meet for the fourth time with Cal holding a 2-1 advantage in the series. California knocked Tech out of the 2009 NCAA Tournament in the Round of 16. The Jackets lone victory in the series came during their 2007 NCAA Championship run.

The match will pit the nation’s top two singles players up against one another. The Yellow Jackets top-ranked Irina Falconi is 16-1 in singles during the 2009-10 season, with her only loss coming to No. 2 Jana Juricova of Cal in the finals of the ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships.
