NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Annie Menees won at No. 1 doubles and clinched the match with a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles to help sixth-ranked Vanderbilt (9-1) to a 7-0 win over No. 23 Georgia Tech (5-2) Saturday afternoon at the Brownlee O. Currey, Jr. Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
Menees recorded a 7-5, 6-2 win over Yellow Jacket junior Lyndsay Shosho to clinch the Commodores ninth dual-match win of the season.
The Yellow Jackets fell in all three doubles matches to begin the afternoon. Audra Falk and Menees, the nation’s 33rd-ranked duo, downed Tech’s 11th-ranked Kristi Miller and Alison Silverio, 8-6, at the No. 1 position, while No. 54 Taka Bertrand and Amanda Fish defeated Shosho and Kelly Anderson, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. Caroline Ferrell and Amanda Taylor captured the point for the Commodores with an 8-6 victory over Kacie Anson and Dasha Potapova at the No. 3 slot.
Ferrell put the Commodores up 2-0 in the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Whitney McCray in the No. 6 singles slot and Taylor gave Vanderbilt a three-point edge with a 6-3, 6-4 victory against Silverio at No. 4 singles.
Rounding out singles action on the afternoon, 29th-ranked Falk defeated No. 20 Miller, 6-3, 7-5, in the top singles slot, and Fish downed Potapova, 6-4, 7-6, at the No. 3 singles position to finish off Vanderbilt’s sweep of the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech will return to action Thursday when they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers at 2:30 p.m.
