April 4, 2008

ATLANTA – The second-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will host Virginia and Virginia Tech at the Bill Moore Tennis Center in a pair of key Atlantic Coast Conference matches this weekend. Tech will first square off with No. 40 Virginia Saturday at 12 noon before hosting No. 51 Virginia Tech in the opening match of a women’s-men’s doubleheader Sunday at 10 a.m.

Live stats can be found at Ramblinwreck.com while a video replay of both matches will be available on ACC Select (http://gatech.playonsports.tv).

Virginia leads the series with the Yellow Jackets, 15-11, but Georgia Tech has been the more successful team of late, winning the last four, and eight of the last nine matches, between the two schools. The Jackets and Cavaliers are an even 6-6 on matches played in Atlanta.

Georgia Tech has held the upper hand in the series against the Hokies, winning the last five matches after losing the first two matches of the series.

Following this weekend’s matches, Tech will host Boston College and Maryland in the last two regular season matches for the Yellow Jackets. Tech will be participating in Ace for the Cure, to benefit the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation, against the Eagles on Saturday before the Jackets honor their two seniors, Kristi Miller and Whitney McCray, Sunday prior to the match against the Terrapins.

Miller and McCray have been a part of an NCAA Championships, two ITA National Team Indoor Titles, three ACC Championships and 86 team victories for the Yellow Jackets entering this weekend’s matches against the Cavs and Hokies.
