Storylines

  • Senior outside hitter Julia Bergmann received her second consecutive ACC Player of the Week recognition this week, marking her fourth of the season to tie her career best and lead the league. Prior to Bergmann a season ago, no one in the ACC had matched the tally since 2015.
  • The honor follows her second career GameChanger Division I National Player of the Week selection from the AVCA a week ago, which made her the first Yellow Jacket in program history to garner two career recognitions.
  • En route to her weekly honor, the highly touted Jacket bested her season high combined kill output through two matches by nearly double digits over the weekend as she piled up 54 kills for a gaudy six kills per set. In addition, Bergmann tallied 21 digs, six aces and six blocks.
  • Bergmann made waves in Tech’s comeback over Florida State specifically, unleashing a career best and program record tying 38 kills in the match to become the first Yellow Jacket ever with four individual matches of 30 or more kills.
  • In doing so, the explosive attacker also moved to seventh in Tech history in career kills with 1,630 to date.
  • Bergmann continues to lead the ACC by a wide margin and owns top-10 marks in the NCAA in kills (437) and points (490.5), topping the nation in points per set (6.06) and ranking second in the country in kills per set (5.40).
  • In the conference alone, she holds advantages atop the league over the second-place marks by 76 kills, 1.2 kills per set, 59.5 points and 1.05 points per set.
  • In addition to her 10th match of 20 or more kills this season at an efficient .338 clip against Florida State, Bergmann also added her 10th double double of the season.
  • In individual matches, the decorated attacker now owns the top two marks in kills in a match across the ACC and four of the top seven, highlighted by Sunday’s 38 kills leading the way. Bergmann is the only player in the ACC with more than 30 kills in a match this season, having done so twice.
  • Mirroring her advantages in kills, Bergmann also owns the top two totals in points, highlighted by Sunday’s 42.5 as the closest of any other ACC player to date is 30.5.
  • The Yellow Jackets have 13 wins in ACC play on the season, now owning double-digit conference triumphs for four consecutive years.
  • Tech has picked up 12 sweeps on the year, including seven in the ACC.
  • The Jackets were ranked No. 13 in this week’s AVCA DI Coaches Preseason Poll.
  • The 13 spot ties the 10th-highest ranking received by the White and Gold in program history, joining the 2003 squad.
  • The Yellow Jackets have been listed in 50 straight top 25 polls to date.
  • Georgia Tech is one of three ACC teams inside the top 15 (No. 5 Louisville, No. 7 Pitt).
  • As a unit, Georgia Tech is currently second in the ACC in both kills per set (13.83) and assists per set (12.85). The Yellow Jackets are also sitting third in the league in opponent hitting percentage (.168).
  • The decorated attacker continues to climb deeper into the Tech record books as she recently became the fifth Yellow Jacket in program history to join the 1,500 kill/1,000 dig club. Having already surpassed 1,500 kills against Boston College, Bergmann eclipsed 1,000 career digs against North Carolina.
  • The vaunted Yellow Jacket is also fifth all time in career aces, owning 158 to date.
  • Bergmann is up to 10 outings of 20+ kill this season, earning four against ranked opponents.
  • Graduate middle blocker Breland Morrissette joins Bergmann with one of the top marks in the country, currently ranking second in the ACC and 10th in the NCAA in hitting percentage (.412).
  • Going beyond 2019’s NIVC title, Tech has won 76 of its last 93 matches.
  • Over the course of the past four seasons, Georgia Tech is 45-6 at home in O’Keefe Gymnasium. Tech is 304-103 (.747) all time in O’Keefe Gymnasium’s 28-year history.

Competitive Drive Initiative

In a unified endeavor, Georgia Tech, the Georgia Tech Foundation, Georgia Tech athletics and the Alexander-Tharpe Fund have come together to accelerate funding for student-athlete scholarships with the launch of the Competitive Drive Initiative. The initiative kicks off with the Accelerate GT Match Program, where any new gift to the A-T Fund’s Athletic Scholarship Fund made through Dec. 31 will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Georgia Tech Foundation, up to $2.5 million. Should Accelerate GT reach its $2.5 million fundraising goal, the matching gift would result in a $5 million impact for Georgia Tech athletics.
