THE FLATS – He has earned the reputation of being a top-10 machine, and Matt Kuchar posted his 86th top-10 finish in 380 career events last weekend by tying for ninth place at the Waste Management Open in Scottsdale, Ariz.

The former Tech All-American and 2017 Olympic bronze medalist opened strong with a 64 on the TPC Scottsdale course and finished 69-69-70 for a 12-under-par 272, five shots out of the playoff between Webb Simpson and Hideki Matsuyama. With his first start of the 2017 calendar year and just his fourth in the 2016-17 PGA Tour schedule, Kuchar moved up to 87th in FedEx Cup points.

Ollie Schniederjans posted another solid finish, tying for 24th place with a 72-hole total of 275 (-9), and moved up one spot to 47th in the FedEx Cup race. The three-time Tech All-American has three top-25 finishes in eight events this season and has earned $463,016, leading the Tech contingent on tour in both points and earnings.

In the final round, Matt Kuchar knocks his tee shot inside 1 foot on the par-3 16th hole, resulting in a tap-in birdie.

Following his second-round 69 at the 2017 Waste Management Phoenix Open, Matt Kuchar talks about being pleased overall with his play despite a few bogeys.

The Tour moves to Pebble Beach, Calif., this week for the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, where Roberto Castro, Stewart Cink, David Duval, Bryce Molder, Cameron Tringale and Richy Werenski join Kuchar in the field. Schniederjans is taking the week off.

Chesson Hadley and Nicholas Thompson are listed as alternates, but are also in the field list for the Web.com Tour’s club Colombia Championship in Bogota, Colombia this weekend. Bo Andrews, Anders Albertson, Seth Reeves will be in Colombia for that event.
