Nissan #ProJackets Golf Report

Aug. 29, 2017

THE FLATS – Three of the four Georgia Tech alumni who began the FedEx Cup Playoffs last weekend – Matt Kuchar (No. 15), Ollie Schniederjans (No. 42) and Stewart Cink (No. 81) have made it through to week two this weekend at the Dell Technologies Championship in Norton, Mass., outside of Boston.

The top 100 on the points list following The Northern Trust last weekend advanced. Kuchar, in good position to advance all the way to the Tour Championship in Atlanta at the end of September, earned his seventh top-10 finish of the year, tying for 10th place on the strength of a second-round 64 that included eight birdies in a 10-hole stretch.

Kuchar also remains No. 8 in points to make the United States team for the Presidents Cup. The top 10 following the Dell Technologies Championship are automatically on the team.

Schniederjans and Cink, already in position among the top 100, moved on despite missing the cut. Richy Werenski was not so fortunate. He shot rounds of 70-71-72-72 and tied for 49th place, but moved up only two spots to No. 106, ending his rookie season.

The top 70 after this weekend will advance to the BMW Championship outside of Chicago, Ill., next week. The top 30 after the BMW come to Atlanta Sept. 21-24 for the season-ending Tour Championship.

Some highlights from Kuchar’s stellar short game play over the weekend:

In the second round of THE NORTHERN TRUST 2017, Matt Kuchar nearly holes out from 102 yards on the par-4 14th hole.

In the second round of THE NORTHERN TRUST 2017, Matt Kuchar sticks his wedge shot from 82 yards to set up birdie on the par-4 11th hole.

In the second round of THE NORTHERN TRUST 2017, Matt Kuchar shows some wisdom around the green by using the wedge to chip-in for his birdie on the par-4 10th hole.

In the third round of THE NORTHERN TRUST 2017, Matt Kuchar strikes it from 88 yards to give himself a tap-in birdie on the par-4 11th hole.

In the third round of THE NORTHERN TRUST 2017, Matt Kuchar makes a 45-foot birdie from off the green on the par-3 6th hole.

Web.com Tour: Chesson Hadley officially graduated from the Web.com Tour last weekend along with 24 other Web.com Tour players, finishing ninth on the regular-season earnings list despite missing the cut at the WINCO Foods Portland Open. Hadley, who won the LECOM Health Challenge in early June and earned three top-10 finishes this season, will begin playing PGA Tour events when the 2017-18 schedule starts in October. It is the second time he has graduated from the Web.com Tour, first earning his PGA Tour card in 2013. He has a victory on the PGA Tour and three wins on the Web.com Tour.

Before that, however, he’ll join Nicholas Thompson (No. 32 in earnings), Seth Reeves (No. 60) and Anders Albertson (No. 62) in the Web.com Tour Finals, a four-event playoff that begins this weekend with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship in Columbus, Ga. The top 25 in earnings collectively for the four events also earn PGA Tour status for 2017-18.

The three Georgia Tech alumni who finished outside the top 125 of the FedEx Cup this season – Cameron Tringale (133), Roberto Castro (172) and Bryce Molder (190) – are also eligible for the Web.com Tour Finals. Castro and Tringale are listed in the field for this week’s Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship.
