THE FLATS – Ollie Schniederjans earned his second top-10 finish of his rookie year on the PGA Tour, and all six Georgia Tech golfers in the field made the cut at last weekend’s Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines golf Club in La Jolla, Calif.
Schniederjans, a three-time All-American and once the No. 1 amateur player in the world, shot 69-69-71-71 to post an 8-under-par 280, and was within a shot of the lead after 54 holes. With four cuts made and two top-10 finishes in seven events in the 2016-17 season, Schniederjans is solidifying his standing to make the playoffs after rising to 48th in FedEx Cup points.
Meanwhile, veteran Stewart Cink and rookie Richy Werenski tied for 20th place at 6-under-par 282. The 2009 Open Champion continued his resurgence after a difficult 2016 campaign with his fourth top-25 finish and is 42nd in FedEx Cup points. Werenski moved up to 65th in FedEx Cup points with his second top-25 finish and has made six cuts in eight events.
Roberto Castro tied for 28th, making his fifth cut in five events and stands 106th on the FedEx Cup list, while Cameron Tringale finished 73rd and is 116th in points. Bryce Molder turned in a tie for 41st and is 153rd in points.
The Tour moves to Scottsdale, Ariz., this week, where Matt Kuchar resumes his schedule after being idle for the first four events of 2017. Castro, Molder, Schniederjans and Tringale are in the field, while Cink and Werenski take the week off.
In the third round of the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open, Ollie Schniederjans knocks it out of the rough from 175 yards landing it within 4 feet setting up a short look at birdie on the par-4 4th hole.
Following an opening-round 68, Stewart Cink reflects on his play in the 2017 Farmers Insurance Open with Fred Albers from PGA TOUR Radio.
