Tech Duo Named Midseason True Freshman All-Americans

Mackenny, Singleton Jr. among 22 honorees by On3

THE FLATS – Georgia Tech offensive lineman Ethan Mackenny (Marietta, Ga./Lassiter H.S.) and wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr. (Douglasville, Ga./Alexander H.S.) have been honored as two of 22 midseason true freshman all-Americans by On3.

Georgia Tech is the only team in the nation with two representatives on the 11-player offense and one of just five schools with two honorees on the full 22-player team (joining Alabama, Clemson, Miami (Fla.) and Texas A&M).

Mackenny has been the Yellow Jackets’ primary left tackle since early in the season opener versus Louisville and has started each of the last five games. He is a key cog in Georgia Tech’s offensive front that has allowed just seven sacks in six games (1.17/game, good for third in the ACC and 24th nationally). Three times this season, he has earned pass blocking grades of 75 or higher from Pro Football Focus – 75.9 vs. Bowling Green, 84.6 vs. South Carolina State and 88.2 at Wake Forest (PFF scores above 70 are considered above average, while scores above 80 are considered all-conference level).

Singleton Jr. took college football by storm with touchdown catches in each of his first five games and has 20 receptions for 355 yards and five scores through six contests. His 355 receiving yards and five touchdown catches both lead the team, while his 20 receptions and 17.8 yards per catch rank second on the squad. With six games still to play, his five touchdown receptions (which lead all true freshmen nationally) are just two shy of the Georgia Tech freshman record of seven shared by Calvin Johnson (2004) and Ahmarean Brown (2019).

Mackenny and Singleton Jr. return to action on Saturday, Oct. 21 when Georgia Tech hosts Boston College for an Atlantic Coast Conference battle. Kickoff is set for noon at Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field and the game will be televised nationally on ACC Network.
