THE FLATS – Despite holding a five-point lead entering the fourth quarter, No. 16 Georgia Tech women’s basketball was unable to hang on, falling 50-48 to No. 3/2 Louisville on Sunday afternoon at McCamish Pavilion.
Limited to just seven active student-athletes available on Sunday, the Yellow Jackets 10-3 (1-1 ACC) had four players record more than 37 Herculean minutes on the floor.
Leading the pack was Lorela Cubaj, who finished with 12 points, 16 rebounds and five assists, playing all but one minute of action for the game. Digna Strautmane remained a threat from downtown, hitting four three pointers to finish with 13 points, while Lotta-Maj Lahtinen finished with 10 points and three assists.
The Cardinals (12-1, 2-0 ACC), who were held to just 36.5 percent shooting from the floor, only mustered three points in the opening quarter before catching a rhythm down the stretch. Emily Engstler led the way as the lone double-digit scorer for Louisville with 14 points and four rebounds.
Georgia Tech continues conference play when it heads to Duke on Thursday, Jan. 6. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ACC Network Extra.
