THE FLATS – Three Yellow Jackets represented Georgia Tech women’s tennis in the ITA Preseason Singles and Doubles Rankings, released on Tuesday by the organization. Gia Cohen, Ava Hrastar and Carol Lee all appeared in the singles rankings, while Cohen and Hrastar also garnered a doubles ranking.
Leading the way for the Jackets in the singles rankings was sophomore Hrastar at No. 65. Last season, Hrastar posted a 13-9 overall record in singles play and climbed as high as No. 91 in the ITA rankings. She clinched Tech’s first win over Duke in the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, securing a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the Yellow Jackets.
Following Hrastar, Lee sits at No. 92 in the preseason singles rankings. Lee finished her freshman campaign with a 14-12 overall singles record, competing mainly at the No. 5 position. The Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands native, clinched Tech’s road victory at NC State, winning a three-set battle for the deciding 4-3 match victory.
Two spots behind Lee, Cohen claims the No. 94 spot in the preseason singles rankings. Cohen rose as high as No. 99 in last year’s singles rankings and concluded her junior season with a 9-16 singles record.
In doubles action, Cohen and Hrastar earned a top 10 preseason doubles ranking, coming in at No. 6. Last season the pair earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Doubles Championships after climbing as high as No. 16 in the rankings. The doubles team finished the campaign with an 8-8 record.
